There was no shortage of playmaking brilliance in MLS this week.
Whitecaps maestro Pedro Morales grabbed the headlines from Vancouver's 4-3 win over Portland, converting a pair of penalty kicks and setting up another two goals. But Timbers catalyst Diego Valeri stood out as well, following up his midweek assist against Chivas USA with two more helpers versus Vancouver.
For those two Cascadia playmakers, the performances were enough to land them on Goal's MLS Team of the Week.
Toronto FC striker Jermain Defoe leads our front line after scoring twice in a comeback win against Columbus, powering home a penalty kick before bagging a tremendous strike from 18 yards out. He's joined by Timbers newcomer Fanendo Adi, who notched a brace at Chivas and picked up a skillful assist off the bench against the Whitecaps. Philadelphia Union winger Cristian Maidana completes the unit after teeing up a Conor Casey goal and scoring one of his own against Chivas.
Anchoring the midfield is the San Jose Earthquakes' Jean-Baptiste Pierazzi, who scored a stunner from distance in a win over Dallas. Chad Marshall mans one center back slot behind him, thanks to his 10 clearances in a shutout of previously unbeaten Salt Lake. His partner is Jeff Parke, who kept things tidy in the back as D.C. United held on for a 1-0 victory versus Kansas City.
Getting the nod at right back is Marvell Wynne, after the veteran helped the Colorado Rapids secure the clean sheet against Houston and set up a Deshorn Brown strike. The Whitecaps' Jordan Harvey is at left back after he scored what turned out to be the winner against Portland.
And the goalkeeper for this week's squad is Jon Busch, who protected San Jose's 2-1 win at Dallas with several big stops, including a penalty kick save on Fabian Castillo.
