Beltran replaces injured Evans on U.S. roster

The Real Salt Lake right back has been named to the roster that will face Mexico on Wednesday with Evans sidelined by a calf strain.
Injury has once again cost U.S. right back Brad Evans a chance to test himself against rival Mexico.

U.S. Soccer on Sunday announced that Evans (calf strain) has been dropped from the roster that will face El Tri on Wednesday in Glendale, Ariz., with Real Salt Lake right back Tony Beltran named as his replacement.

Evans, a natural midfielder with limited opportunities at right back against top opposition, also missed the USA's qualifier against Mexico in September with a calf strain. The friendly against Mexico is the Americans' final match before convening for the pre-World Cup camp in mid-May.

Beltran, 26, received two caps in 2013 and was a member of the USA's Gold Cup-winning squad. U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann attended RSL's 3-0 win over Toronto FC on Saturday and informed Beltran of his call-up after the match.
