Jozy Altidore will lead the USA out of the tunnel Tuesday night in Panama City.
With fill-in captain Tim Howard released back to Everton and regular captain Clint Dempsey remaining with the Seattle Sounders, Jurgen Klinsmann has turned to Altidore to don the captain's armband for the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying hexagonal finale against Panama.
He will do so for the first time as a member of the senior USA national team, as according to U.S. Soccer, the 23-year-old Altidore has not captained a U.S. side since he played for the Under-18 national team.
Altidore has scored in six consecutive starts for the USA after going more than a year and a half without an international goal. His goal Friday night finished off the USA's 2-0 victory over Jamaica that sealed the Americans' place atop the Hex.
