thumbnail Hello,

Jurgen Klinsmann has seen his Americans pass El Tri for the first time in his reign as national team coach, with the USA cracking the top 20.

Winning the CONCACAF Gold Cup did more than just yield a trophy and regional bragging rights for the U.S. men's national team.

The Gold Cup triumph catapulted the USA up three spots into 19th in the most recent FIFA world rankings, helping the Americans pass Mexico for the first time in manager Jurgen Klinsmann's two-year tenure on the bench. Mexico was unchanged at 20 after being eliminated in the semifinals by Panama, which rose 11 spots to 40th.

For the USA, which is currently enjoying a team-best 11-game winning streak, cracking the top 20 had not occurred since March 2011. The USA's next opponent, Bosnia-Herzegovina, is up one spot to an all-time best 13th in the world, and the two will face off this coming Wednesday in Sarajevo.

The top 12 teams in the world remained unchanged, with Spain still atop the rankings. La Roja are followed by Germany, Colombia, Argentina, Netherlands, Italy, Portugal, Croatia, Brazil, Belgium, Greece and Uruguay, respectively.
