Chicago adds another Designated Player in the forward position as it looks to bolster a front line that features Mike Magee and Sherjill MacDonald.
The Fire have announced the signing of Ecuadorian striker Juan Luis Anangonó, who joins the club from Argentina Premier Division team Argentinos Juniors. The 24-year-old's move is pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P1 Visa and will occupy a Designated Player slot. Anangonó will begin training with the Fire on Tuesday.
Chicago believes that Anangono will play a big part of the club's future.
“Juan Luis is a young, up-and-coming goal scorer who is technically gifted and can hold the ball well,” said Fire President of Soccer Operations Javier Leon in a statement. “He provides us with attacking options and will bolster our squad, not only for the second half of the season, but for the future.”
Anangono made his professional debut at the age of 19 for Guayaquil side Barcelona Sporting Club on Feb. 16, 2008. Over the course of two seasons, Anangonó scored eight goals across 32 matches.
Anangonó then joined Nacional in 2011 where he appeared in 72 matches and scored 30 goals before going on loan to Argentinos Juniors. At Argentinos Juniors, Anangonó scored five goals in 32 matches.
Anangonó is an Ecuador youth international and has one senior national team appearance, debuting against Argentina in June 2013.
