The American forward converted in the penalty shootout, but his club fell to a third-tier foe in the first round of the Austrian Cup.It is going to be a long wait for Terrence Boyd if he is to hoist a domestic cup trophy with Rapid Vienna.
The U.S. international striker's top-flight club bowed out of the Austrian Cup in the first round, falling in a 5-4 in a penalty shootout after a 0-0 draw against third-tier LASK Linz on Sunday.
Boyd, who entered the game as a 74th-minute substitute, converted his penalty in the shootout round that followed 120 minutes of scoreless play, but Marcel Sabitzer missed his chance to level the tally at 5-5, and the favored Rapid Vienna was eliminated in embarrassing fashion. Rapid Vienna had reached the quarterfinals of the competition last season.
The 22-year-old Boyd is entering his second season with the Austrian Bundesliga power, following an impressive debut campaign in which he scored 17 goals in all competitions. The club's regular season begins next Saturday on the road against Wolfsberger AC.
