Those hit with punishments on Wednesday included Earthquakes midfielder Shea Salinas and D.C. United coach Ben Olsen.The MLS Disciplinary Committee unfurled four separate punishments on Wednesday.
It banned San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Shea Salinas one match and fined him an undisclosed amount for a stray elbow early in the match against the LA Galaxy. The 'Quakes, after going down by two goals and a man, came back to win 3-2. Salinas will miss the match against the Chicago Fire.
The Montreal Impact will be without head coach Marco Schallibaum and assistant Philippe Eullaffroy for their next match. Against the Colorado Rapids, when Montreal lost 4-3, Schallibaum entered the field of play in the 89th minute, and Eullaffroy threw the ball at Rapids midfielder Tony Cascio. Both coaches also suffered undisclosed fines.
D.C. United's head coach will fork over $2,000 for an angry press conference, in which he called the referee "the joker in the middle" and a "clown."
In the match between Real Salt Lake and Toronto FC, which RSL won 1-0, both teams confronted the referee en masse. MLS warned Salt Lake, and, because it was a second offense, fined Toronto and TFC head coach Ryan Nelsen.
