thumbnail Hello,

A day after officially being introduced by the club following a trade with the Chicago Fire, the American winger has been cleared to make his return to action.

Robbie Rogers' LA Galaxy debut could come as soon as Sunday night.

Rogers, who made waves by making his homosexuality public a few months ago, had his international transfer certificate received by his new club, the Galaxy announced via their official website. The development clears his path to become eligible for Bruce Arena's matchday roster against the Seattle Sounders at the Home Depot Center.

If Rogers sees the field against the Sounders, and his former coach Sigi Schmid, he would become the first openly gay American athlete in a major sport to play a professional game.

Rogers' rights were acquired by the Galaxy from the Chicago Fire on Saturday in a trade for Mike Magee and other future considerations, according to a team press release. Rogers has not participated in a match since Dec. 8 and played sparingly for both Leeds United and Stevenage upon leaving MLS after the 2011 season.
