The venue will host both a club friendly, Manchester City vs. Chelsea in May, and an international friendly, the Republic of Ireland vs. Spain in June.
Yankee Stadium has announced that it will be hosting two upcoming friendlies at the baseball stadium. Manchester City will play Chelsea on May 25 and Spain will face off with the Republic of Ireland on June 11.
Last summer, Chelsea faced Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid played against AC Milan in highly successful exhibitions that drew crowds of 38,202 and 49,474 respectively in the $1 billion venue. The New York Yankees organization hopes to find similar success this year as the world's best international team and two top clubs from England's top flight visit.
Chelsea's Chief Executive Ron Gourlay is excited for the Blues to be returning to the New York City area.
"The club is excited to be playing a double header [the team also plays City in St. Louis] in the US this May and thrilled to be returning to Yankee Stadium," Gourlay said. "We were delighted to take part in the first ever football game there, and we received sensational support in what was a sea of blue fans inside and outside the stadium that day."
Tickets for both matches will be sold as a bundle and go on sale on April 10.
