The U.S. national team star's return to MLS play is slated for late March, the club announced on Sunday.Landon Donovan's extended vacation will come to an end during the final week of March according to the Los Angeles Galaxy.
The announcement from the club ends months of speculation about the future of the U.S. national team star and how long he would be away from the game.
"After a series of collaborative discussions between Landon, his representative and our key club leaders, we have agreed to allow Landon to remain on an extended leave of absence and return to training with the team during the final week of March,” Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena said in a team statement.
“We understand this arrangement is not ideal, but we are confident it will allow Landon the time he needs to be both mentally and physically prepared for the upcoming season. We remain focused on our preparation for the start of the 2013 season and look forward to Landon rejoining us next month,” Arena continued
The announcement also seemingly rules Donovan out of the next two World Cup qualifying matches for the United States, including a trip to Estadio Azteca to take on Mexico on March 26.
