U.S. national team striker Jozy Altidore scored again for AZ Alkmaar, finding the back of the net in his club's 2-2 draw with Roda JC on Saturday.
With his club trailing 1-0, Altidore got position on his defender, received a pass, turned and fired low and to the left with his right foot from about 19 yards to pull AZ level in the 35th minute. Altidore went the distance for AZ, marking the 19th consecutive league match that he's played all 90 minutes, and 20 of 22 games overall.
The goal was Altidore's 16th of the league campaign and career-best 21st in all competitions. It was also his first since netting from the penalty spot in a Dutch Cup match on Jan. 29, when he was the subject of racist chants from fans of second-tier Den Bosch. Altidore trails Wilfried Bony by two goals for the Eredivisie lead, and his 16 non-penalty goals are the most in the league.
It's not the first time Altidore has torched Roda this season. On Sept. 16, he lit up the opposition for a hat trick, one of two notched during the 2012-13 campaign thus far.
