Howard and Bocanegra pick Ray Lewis and Ravens to win Super Bowl

The two captains of the United States national team predict the underdog Ravens and their iconic linebacker to upset the San Francisco 49ers in this week's NFL matchup.
The oddsmakers in Las Vegas might have the San Francisco 49ers as the favorites to defeat the Baltimore Ravens in the Super Bowl, but the United States national team's captain and vice captain are going with the underdogs.

Carlos Bocanegra and Tim Howard are rooting for the Ravens as both players want to see future Hall of Famer Ray Lewis walk away with another ring. San Francisco is a four-point favorite entering Sunday's game in New Orleans.

"Id like to see the Ravens win it and Ray Ray go out with a ring. What a competitor and leader of men," Bocanegra wrote to

Howard agreed with the U.S. captain.

"I'm rooting for the Ravens because it would be great to see a legend like Ray Lewis go out on top with a fairy-tale ending," Howard told "It's not often you can cap off a Hall of Fame career with a Super Bowl championship and then sail off into the sunset."

Baltimore has had an interesting road to the championship game, responding to news that Lewis would be retiring after an illustrious 17-year career at the end of the season by upsetting both the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots on the road. The game also marks the first time two brothers will be on opposite sidelines as head coaches, with Jim and John Harbaugh set to meet in the "Harbowl."

Howard is excited to watch a thrilling game, though he admits that he will have some trash talking in the Everton keeper's living room.

"I'll be watching the game with my seven-year old son who wants the 49ers to win and he thinks it's cool to root against me!"
