The U.S. international forward earned the start and netted his side's only goal in a draw with San Luis.
Gomez, who won the Clausura Golden Boot in 2010 with Puebla, scored on a header from inside the box off a feed from Carlos Quintero in the 27th minute to give his side the lead. Guillermo Rojas netted the equalizer midway through the second half, though, as the sides split the points to open the season. Gomez was substituted out of the match in the 74th minute.
As for other Americans in Mexico, Jose Torres made his debut with Tigres UANL after his move from Pachuca, playing all 90 minutes in a 3-0 victory over Jaguares. Puebla and reigning Liga MX champion Tijuana clash on Sunday in a match that could feature as many as five U.S. internationals: Puebla's DaMarcus Beasley and Michael Orozco Fiscal and Tijuana's Joe Corona, Edgar Castillo and Greg Garza.
