The Tom Sermanni coaching era of U.S. women's soccer begins next year, but before then, the 2012 Olympic gold medal winners will close out 2012 by taking on China three times.
U.S. Soccer announced that the Fan Tribute Tour will come to a close with three matches against China next month: At Ford Field in Detroit on Dec. 8, BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston on Dec. 12 and FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, Fla. on Dec. 15. The last time the U.S. women played China they rolled to a 4-1 result at PPL Park in Chester, Pa., behind a brace from Alex Morgan.
Jill Ellis, U.S. Soccer Director of Women's Development, will coach the team in the three matches as a continued interim replacement for the departed Pia Sundhage, while Sermanni, the former Australia coach who was hired as Sundhage's full-time successor and will take over in 2013, will attend each match as a spectator.
Ellis will also guide the U.S. women in their next two matches, games against the Republic of Ireland at Jeld-Wen Field in Portland, Ore., on Nov. 28 and University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., on Dec. 1. So far, the U.S. women are 3-0-2 on their post-Olympics tribute tour, defeating Sermanni's Australia twice and Costa Rica and tying Germany twice.
