Beckham: Steve Nash plays the game the way I play the game

Soccer fan Steve Nash has a fan in David Beckham, who watched the Lakers' first game of the NBA season on Tuesday.
Steve Nash isn't the only foreign playmaker starring for a Los Angeles franchise. The new Lakers signing joins David Beckham, who has been pulling the strings for the LA Galaxy since 2007.

Consider Beckham a fan of the Canadian point guard.

"He's a player I've always looked up to, a player that I've always watched and loved the way he plays," Beckham said. "He plays the game the way I try to play the game, but he uses his hands; I use my feet. But we can both pass the ball."

On Tuesday Beckham and Galaxy teammate Robbie Keane took in the Lakers debut of Nash and Dwight Howard as they fell 99-91 to the Dallas Mavericks. The English midfielder has been through too many long seasons to fret after one match.

"First game, you know," Beckham said. "There's a lot of people panicking, but, c'mon. You know what? It's just great to see the players that we got out there. It's kind of a dream to watch some of those players out there."

Nash is expected to visit the Home Depot Center on Thursday when the Galaxy kick off the playoffs against the Vancouver Whitecaps. Nash is a part-owner of the Whitecaps, which has led to some pregame ribbing between him and Beckham.

"I questioned who he's going to be supporting now he's playing in our city," Beckham said. "We've had a little bit of banter."

Then Beckham joked that for Halloween he will go dressed as Nash. "In his Lakers kit, not his Vancouver kit."
