In a repeat of the 2012 Clausura final, the result went the other way, with Monterrey beating Santos 3-2.
Humberto Suazo and Oribe Peralta traded headed goals in the first half. Monterrey hit twice within three minutes early in the second half to surge ahead. Cesar Fabian Delgado struck an impressive long-range strike and Aldo De Nigris bundled home from close range.
Gomez's goal came as a consolation in the 85th minute. Set free behind the defense, he nutmegged Jonathan Orozco for his third Liga MX goal of the season.
The win pushes Monterrey one point ahead of Santos in the table, to seventh place. Santos is ninth.
