The American forward did his team no favors by arguing a call and picking up back-to-back bookings for his efforts.Jozy Altidore was sent off in the 52nd minute of AZ's 3-0 loss to Twente on Sunday, picking up two quick bookings for arguing against a red card to teammate Adam Maher.
Maher felt he had been fouled and should have been awarded a penalty, but when none was give he decided to kick out at a defender while he was still on the ground, earning a straight red from the referee.
Altidore came to his defense and was immediately shown a yellow as he approached the official before being told to walk away. Rather than following the instructions, the forward stood his ground, eventually mocking the referee with a round of applause and earning a second booking in a matter of seconds.
AZ was down 1-0 before the two players were sent off, but with the large numerical advantage Twente turned the screws and ran away with a 3-0 win. Altidore will be suspended for AZ's next match, and Oct. 20 encounter with NEC that follows the international break.
