The Sporting KC midfielder continues to develop under coach Jurgen Klinsmann, submitting a solid performance in the win over Jamaica.Graham Zusi may have earned himself a spot in the U.S. team's lineup for the foreseeable future.
The U.S. midfielder was a surprise addition in Jurgen Klinsmann's starting XI and helped lead the Yanks to a 1-0 victory over Jamaica in the crucial World Cup qualifying match Tuesday at Columbus Crew Stadium.
"I think Graham did very well, but we knew that [he would]," Klinsmann said. "We kind of developed him over the last eight or nine months. He was in our January camp in Panama and he has certain strengths that we needed tonight."
Zusi left his mark on the most important game of the Klinsmann era so far. The Sporting Kansas City star, who can shoot from long range and orchestrate play, sparked the U.S. early on when he hit the crossbar in the sixth minute of the match.
"You saw in the last couple of camps him growing in his role," Klinsmann said. "He's kind of became more mature, more confident."
The win over the Reggae Boyz put the Americans in a tie with Guatemala and Jamaica atop the Group A standings.
