Matt Taylor scores hat trick to oust Werder Bremen from DFB-Pokal

Matt Taylor led the way with a hat trick and an assist as Preußen Münster ousted Werder Bremen from the German Cup.
Preussen Muenster surprisingly knocked Werder Bremen out of the German Cup, DFB-Pokal, with a 4-2 extra time win. American Matt Taylor led the way with a hat trick and an assist.

Former Juventus winger Eljera Elia opened the scoring. Taylor took over from there. The 30-year-old scored twice in the second half to send the game into extra time.

Taylor orchestrated the upset by assisting one and scoring another for the third division outfit in extra time, shocking Werder Bremen, which plays in the Bundesliga.

"Secretly, we counted on the second round of DFB-Pokal", Werder general manager Klaus Allofs said.

Taylor is a former Chivas USA striker. He also had stints at the Kansas City Wizards and in the lower divisions in the U.S. with the Portland Timbers and other teams. Since 2008 he has bounced around the lower leagues of Germany.
