thumbnail Hello,

The young canterano was placed at right back, which is not his usual position, but the Castilla product hopes to impress Mourinho regardless.

LAS VEGAS -- Nacho Fernandez is one of the bevy of Real Madrid youngsters getting a crack at playing time with the Merengues' biggest stars. After a rare stint on the pitch as a right back, Fernandez was thankful that his club exited Sam Boyd Stadium with a win.

"This was a very tough game against a difficult team that came in here with a better rhythm," Fernandez said. "Even though they were better prepared than us, we won in the end and that's important."

Fernandez is following a blueprint set forth by Jose Mourinho and the rest of the Real Madrid backroom staff, one that has already seen other youngsters such as Morata and Jese impress in their earlier outings.

"I'm really happy with my evolution. I've been working for three years with the manager, I'm working hard and I hope to be in the first team soon, but right now I'm at Castilla and I'm also happy," Nacho noted after the 2-1 victory.

With a big season ahead of them, Fernandez was thankful for the preseason games that are whipping his club into shape for the long La Liga haul and beyond.

"The team is getting in rhythm, we're still making mistakes but we're working hard to start the season. We're preparing well physically."
