WPS: Los Angeles Sol: Camille Abily
CARSON, Calif. – There’s no denying the Los Angeles Sol, at least when it comes to FC Gold Pride. Sunday Sol leading scorers Camille Abily and Marta both tallied to lead the club to a 2-0 win over the Bay Area squad. It marked the third time the teams met this season and the third time the Sol shut out Gold Pride.

With the win, Los Angeles (8-1-4, 28 points) continues to dominate in the standings. Abily leads the league with seven goals. Goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc is at the top of WPS as well with nine shutouts. LeBlanc also ranks second in goals allowed (4) and third in saves (43).

The Sol remains in first place, while FC Gold Pride (3-6-3, 12 points) is in a two-way tie for fifth place with Sky Blue FC.

Los Angles dominated from the first whistle and took the lead just 17 minutes in. Aya Miyami sent a corner kick into the box in the 17th minute.  Abily took advantage of a deflection, sneaking it past Gold Pride goalkeeper Nicole Barnart and into the net for her league-leading seventh goal of the season.

Eight minutes later, the Sol struck again. Shannon Boxx sent a long ball to Marta. Marta dribbled into the box and sent a low shot past a diving Barnhart and into the goal for a 2-0 lead. The goal was Marta’s fifth.

Los Angeles continued the attack in the second half, forcing Barnhart to make seven saves. In the 71st minute, she stopped back-to-back attempts by Han Duan, Aya Miyama and Marta.

Christine Sinclair led the attack for FC Gold Pride with four shots, including three on goal. Sinclair was riding a three-game scoring streak going into the match. She didn’t add a fourth goal, but still leads the league in shots (37) and shots on goal (18). Tiffeny Milbrett and Formiga also had quality chances with three shots each.

"We've worked extremely hard and came into this game with a lot of confidence thinking we could pull off a win,” FC Gold Pride Head Coach Albertin Montoya said. “You have to give LA credit they keep seeming to find ways to win. I'm not disappointed in our team, they played their hearts out."

LeBlanc and company stopped all seven shots on goal for the visitors, held on for the 2-0 win and collected their ninth shutout. Los Angeles improved to an eight-game unbeaten streak and 6-0-2 home record.

FC Gold Pride was shutout for the first time since May 24, when they dropped a 2-0 decision to the Sol.
