Player Ratings: USA 2-1 Honduras

The U.S. Men’s National Team got the big win they needed coming from behind to beat Honduras 2-1.

Goal.com ran the rule over the players involved in the Chicago clash between the U.S. and Honduras.

USA
Howard (GK) 7: Looked solid in net for most of the match, and had no chance at Honduras goal. Organized his defense well and was a leader when Bocanegra had to come out.
Bornstein (D) 6: Stepped into the left-back role nicely for Bob Bradley and looked strong for most of the match. If anything, was a more natural fit than DaMarcus Beasley

Onyewu (D) 7: Big in the middle as always, held down the center of the park for most of the match, kept a lot of the play on the outsides.

Bocanegra (D) 7.5: Showed his fearlessness on the game-winning goal, an attribute that you want from your captain. Played well in the back as well, but could have done better on Honduras’ goal.

Spector (D) 6: Another step-in player for Bob Bradley, Spector showed flashes of good play, but didn’t really do enough to have people say the job’s his.

Donovan (M) 7.5: Was the lone bright spot for most of the second half, Donovan was creative down the left, and despite it being his third match in a week, showed energy and vigor. His blasted PK was lovely to watch.

Mastroeni (M) 5: Looked confused and lazy in the middle. Gave the ball away more than once, and didn’t appear to track back as much as a holding midfielder should.

Clark (M) 6.5: Didn’t have a great first half, but pulled it together in the second and sprayed the ball around nicely. Decent match for the Dynamo midfielder.

Dempsey (M) 7: Things didn’t start well for Dempsey, whose early give away practically cost the U.S. a goal, but for the next 85 minutes, Dempsey was all over the place, and his work at the far post set up the second goal. Did miss a sitter, though.

Casey (F) 6: A midweek call-up, the Rapids Casey didn’t do as much as he’d like to, but then again, the service wasn’t there. You don’t want Casey chasing down balls, he’s a stand-still guy. His first touch was a bit sloppy at times too.

Altidore (F) 6: Didn’t play as well as he did last time the U.S. was on home soil, but as always displayed energy and drive. Didn’t get involved enough.

SUBS

Feilhaber (M) 7: Coming on at half-time for Mastroeni, Feilhaber added another dimension to the midfield and his efficient passing game put a ton of pressure on Honduars.

DeMerit (D) 6: Played well coming on for the injured Bocanegra, did little to stand-out, from a positive and negative standpoint.

DaMarcus Beasley (M) N/A

Honduras
Valladares (GK) 6.5: A good game between the pipes for Valladares, wasn’t tested on too many occasions, and both goals were unstoppable.

Figueroa (D) 6: Quiet game for Figueroa, did little in either respect.

Chavez (D) 6.5: Should have helped out a bit more on the U.S. second goal, but helped shut things down on numerous occasions.

Beata (D) 5.5: Sloppy handling of the ball helped the U.S. pull level with the PK. Can’t really forgive that.

Sabillion (D) 5.5: Got away with a blatant PK before Beata handled the ball. Clearly fell into Clark and pushed him over. Didn’t look too impressive the rest of the match, either.

Guevara (M) 6.5: The Toronto captain will feel like he could have contributed more in this match, but as usual, his passing was crisp and his influence on the pitch was vital.

Palacios (M) 6: Probably the best player on this team, Palacios showed his lack of fitness in this one, having not played a match since Spurs’ season ended last month. Tackled well, but didn’t get involved enough up front.

Thomas (M) 6: The quick passes of Honduras gave the U.S. fits early on, and Thomas was part of it.  Could have done more though, and was quiet in the second half.

Nunez (M) 7: Nunez and Guevara worked extremely well together in this one, and were often exchanging one-two’s with each other.

Pavon (F) 6: Had the ball at his feet a bunch of times in this one, in some space as well, and didn’t make much of it. The former Galaxy man just didn’t make enough happen from his forward position.

Costly (F) 7.5: Was probably the best player on the pitch for Honduras and his fourth minute goal was the start of that. He struck it with confidence and couldn’t have placed the ball in a better spot.

SUBS
Turcios (F) 6: Had a great chance to level things late on, but sent a volley high and wide from inside the box.

Martinez (F) N/A
