The Bard: Sky Blue FC Finally Comes Home This Sunday
For Sky Blue FC, it's been a busy week of training. But most of all the club is happy to finally return home. Karen Bardsley tells us all about it.
It’s been a pretty good week of training here at Sky Blue FC central! Tuesday we had a great open training session at East Brunswick Soccer Club! (Heather O’Reilly’s former club). Die-hard fans showed up at 6:30pm on a very cold, rainy, “summer” evening to watch the session and meet the soggy players afterward. Like a typical New Jersey toll road, Wednesday’s session was quick and efficient . . .
And that brings us to today, Thursday, May 28, 2009. We had more visitors today. Our W-league affiliate, Quickstrike joined us in preparation for Sunday’s match against the Boston Breakers. It was a good session, and it was nice to have a variety of competition during training. (All you readers in the Central Jersey area, you should all be in attendance! If you absolutely cannot make it I suppose you can watch it on Fox Soccer Channel at 6:00PM ET. Sheesh . . . )
Anyway, I am incredibly excited for our first true home match!!! After two “home” matches at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, NJ and ONE (please let me reiterate, ONE!) month on the road we, Sky Blue FC, are finally moving to Yurcak Field on the campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway, NJ. I have yet to see the facility. But I have been told that the pitch is immaculate, that’s right THAT kind of immaculate. Let’s hope it lives up to the hype, as I’m sure it will! Right Mary? Geeze . . . I can’t wait to see some familiar faces in the crowd, hear OUR rowdy fans (Sky Who? Sky Blue!), and see some Sky Blue FC scarves, signs, and loads of face paint!! Ahh, I’m getting Goosebumps just thinking about it now!
Speaking of support, I’d like to thank my friends and family in California for making the trip to the Home Depot Center to watch us play the Los Angeles Sol. It was amazing to see and hear you all during the game; I am so lucky to have so many wonderful people in my life. I miss you all; I am deeply grateful for your words of encouragement, and your friendship!
