Reading Release US International Bobby Convey
A deal for Convey to return to Major League Soccer seems imminent, with the San Jose Earthquakes the likely destination.
Former DC United player Bobby Convey was released Friday by Reading FC. The American midfielder was an integral part of the Royals' successful campaign to win promotion to the Premiership in the 2005/2006 season, but was subsequently sidelined by knee injuries.
Convey failed to regain a regular place at Reading even after the club slipped back to the Championship level. He didn't make a league appearance for Reading once this season.
"Things haven't worked out for Bobby recently, but he will always have a place in the club's history," Royals director of football Nick Hammond said in a statement. "We wish him all the best for his future career."
Convey scored seven goals in over a hundred appearances for Reading.
Though Convey's international career has been inconsistent due to injuries, he participated in the 2006 World Cup for the U.S.
At one point the youngest player ever signed by Major League Soccer, Convey is expected to return Stateside to try and continue his career. The San Jose Earthquakes are believed to be the main team in pursuit of his services.
