One team has an overload of top-class strikers, while the other barely has any who are fit.
Villarreal currently have the likes of Giuseppe Rossi, Nihat Kahveci, Guille Franco, the under-rated Joseba Llorente as well as promising starlet, Jozy Altidore in their goalscoring ranks. And it is the latter that Everton are interested in acquiring.
The Premier League outfit have been struck down by injuries to their three strikers, Louis Saha, Aiyegbeni Yakubu and James Vaughn and manager, David Moyes, is anxious to bring in some reinforcements without spending too much money in the winter transfer market.
Madrid-based daily, Marca reported that Villarreal president, Fernando Roig has rejected the Toffee’s offer to sign the 19-year-old Altidore on loan until the end of the season.
The American has only played six games so far for El Submarino, just two of them from the start, but he is valued at €7.5 million.
Everton will now turn their attention to either Lokomotiv Moscow’s Peter Odemwingie or Zeni St. Petersburg’s Pavel Pogrebnyak.
