Poll Results: Adu Should Start For USA
Message to US national team coach Bob Bradley from the Goal.com readers: Start Freddy Adu.
In the latest Goal.com poll, a clear message was sent out to Bob Bradley. Most Goal.com readers decided that it is time Freddy Adu is given a starting role for the US national team, and that he should take over the reins in the upcoming hexagonal qualifying round.
Nearly 60% of those who voted think Adu needs to be given starts now so that he will be ready to head the attack once World Cup 2010 rolls around. One of the most gifted players the US has developed, Adu will be 21 by the time WC 2010 arrives, and the majority of our voters think he will be the key to America’s success in the tournament.
A minority rallied to disagree, however. Almost 16% don’t want him seeing any time in the hexagonal because of his inconsistency, and nearly 13% would like to see him given minutes from the bench.
Rounding out the voting, roughly 10% think Adu is currently the best attacker in the US roster and so should be given minutes to support this, and over 2% would like to see Adu starting for his club team, Monaco, before he does the same for the national team.
Here is the breakdown:
59.41% Yes. We need to groom him for WC 2010 to have a chance.
15.84% No. He’s too inconsistent, keep him as far away from the pitch as possible.
12.87% No. Let him come off the bench for now.
8.91% Yes. He’s the best attacker currently in the US roster.
2.97% No. Not until he is starting for Monaco should he be given that role for the USMNT.
Thanks for voting, and remember to take part in Goal.com’s poll every week.
