International players provided more than half the goals in the North American Soccer League during Week 7.With just two weeks remaining in the 2014 North American Soccer League (NASL) Spring Season, our international players continue their stellar performances on the pitch. Internationals provided almost half of the goals during the Week 7 encounters on Saturday evening, including Ghanaian and Polish strikers scoring the game-winners to highlight the NASL International Spotlight.
San Antonio Scorpions' Tomasz Zahorski of Poland scored four minutes into injury time, off an assist from French forward Eric Hassli, for the 3-2 road victory over Ottawa Fury FC at Carleton University's Keith Harris Stadium.
Prior to Zahorski's strike, Bosnia & Herzegovina midfielder Sinisa Ubiparipovic had given the Fury FC a 2-1 lead with 10 minutes remaining, but the Scorpions leveled the match after a penalty kick goal from Hassli three minutes later. Thanks to Zahorski's goal, the victory keeps the third place Scorpions just three points from first in the NASL Spring Standings.
Elsewhere on Saturday, forward Kwadwo Poku of Ghana had the game-winner for Atlanta Silverbacks as they topped host FC Edmonton 2-1 at Clarke Stadium.
Prior to Poku's goal, the Silverbacks had taken the lead in the opening minutes of the second half when the Jamaican duo of Horace James (goal) and Lance Laing (assist) combined to tie the match for FC Edmonton. The result extend Atlanta's unbeaten streak against Edmonton to four games.
Every week throughout the 2014 Spring Season, the NASL put its international stars - both coaches and players - under the 'NASL International Spotlight' focusing on the league's overseas connections.
