The NASL's San Antonio Scorpions will clash with two of the most popular teams in Mexico this summer as Tigres UANL and CF Monterrey will each visit Toyota Field.
Three-time Mexican First Division (Liga MX) champions Tigres return to San Antonio to once again face the Scorpions on Saturday, June 21 at 7:30 pm CT. The last time both teams at Toyota Field it drew a record crowd of 8,255 on July 6, 2013.
The following month (Sunday, July 6 at 6pm CT), four-time CONCACAF winners Monterrey will make their first appearance ever at Toyota Field as part of the Rayados' SocioMX Tour presented by Coors Light.
The international friendlies are included in the package offered to Scorpions season ticket holders. Season ticket holders will also have the opportunity to purchase additional tickets in a presale starting at 8am on May 8.
"The Scorpions are excited to host both the Rayados and Tigres at Toyota Field", said Scorpions President Howard Cornfield. "Each boasts a huge fan base in the area and these games, coming at the height of the World Cup, are a great opportunity for us to be an active part of this exciting time in the world of soccer."
In addition to their league titles, Tigres UANL have won the Copa MX (Mexico's version of U.S. Open Cup) three times and have claimed international hardware by winning SuperLiga (2009). Monterrey has won Liga MX's four times, claimed the CONCACAF Cup Winners Cup in 1993, and in 2011 they won the first of their three consecutive CONCACAF Champions League trophies.
"Monterrey and Tigres are two of the most successful teams in our part of the world and we look forward to testing ourselves against sides of their quality," said Scorpions coach Alen Marcina. "Our fans will be eager to see these matchups and I anticipate an unforgettable atmosphere for each game."
Tickets will go on sale to the general public May 10th at noon. Tickets will be available at the Toyota Field box office, by calling the Scorpions at 210-495-8686 or through Ticketmaster with tickets for each match starting at $25.
