For the first time in three years, the NASL club will play an international friendly at the end of March.The NASL's Tampa Bay Rowdies have announced one additional match on their preseason schedule, as they will face Iceland's Valur FC in an international friendly on Monday, March 31 at IMG Academy Stadium in Bradenton, Fla. at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be free for fans to attend.
"Our match against Valur FC gives us a unique opportunity to play an international friendly against a strong opponent in preparation for our upcoming season,” commented Rowdies General Manager Perry Van Der Beck. “They are one of Iceland's premier clubs and we anticipate a great game. We look forward to the challenge."
Valur FC is based in Reykjavik and finished fifth in last season's domestic league.
The Rowdies are 3-1-0 (W-D-L) so far this preseason. The Valur FC match falls two days after Tampa Bay plays St. Leo University.
The last time the Rowdies played against a European team was on April 14, 2011 in a 1-0 victory over English club Bolton Wanderers at Al Lang Stadium.
