Javier Orozco, Cesar Villaluz y Pablo Zeballos- Cruz Azul vs Puerto Rico Islanders (Mexsport)

C.D. Cruz Azul

Alfonso Blanco- 6: Not asked to do much, but made a couple of nice saves.

Rogelio Chavez- 6: Subbed in the 50th minute, but did well getting up and down the right flank. Played some nice crosses into the box in the first half.

Joaquin Beltran- 8: Not at fault on the goal and played a pretty flawless match. Almost scored in the first half, but was denied by the post.

Julio Dominguez- 8: Barely put a foot wrong in limiting the Islanders to just three shots on goal.

Fausto Pinto- 6: Played a great first half running the flank, but was not a factor in the latter stages of the match.

Gerardo Lugo- 7: Whipped in several good crosses including one in overtime the led to the equalizer.

Cristian Riveros- 4: Was sent off for a very soft foul in the 31st, but the challenge was unnecessary and there was little chance of ever winning the ball.

Gerardo Terrado- 9.5: Can’t ask much more of your captain than what Torrado put fourth. Played great two-way soccer and controlled the entire match despite losing his midfield partner 30 minutes in.

Jaime Lozano- 7: Another solid match for the winger. Played several nice balls into the area and forced Gaudette into a couple of big saves.

Luis Angel Landin- 6: Did well to combine with Zeballos on the goal and set up a few other nice chances.

Pablo Zeballos- 7: Aside from his one great strike Zeballos disappointed in front of the goal.

Subs:

Edgar Andrade- 6: Made some good runs into the attack, but was outdone by the other two subs.

Cesar Villaluze- 8.5: Came on in the second half and was an absolute menace. Scored the equalizer in extra time with a great piece of skill.

Javier Orozco- 8.5: Had a huge impact off the bench with a great goal in regulation to level the aggregate and the final tally in the shootout.

Puerto Rico Islanders

Bill Guadette- 7: Made 16 saves and kept his tem in the match, but had a couple of errors that weren’t punished.

Cristian Arrieta- 3: Bad night for the Italian who is normally a great defender. Gave up far too many cheap fouls and was beaten on the goal in stoppage time and numerous other occasions.

Kyle Veris- 4: Got beat by Zaballos on the goal and was late on most of his tackles. Looked out of sorts playing as one of three central defenders.

John Krause- 5: A so-so outing as the free roaming center back in the five-man back line. Won a number of balls for his side, but made a few very bad mistakes.

Nigel Henry- 7: The strength of Puerto Rico’s defense single-handedly kept one goal out and was on hand to deal with most of Cruz Azul’s crosses.

Scott Jones- 5.5: Did his job well on the left, but left too much space for crosses on a few occasions.

Noah Delgado- 6: Had a poor first half but showed his class in the second and was one of Puerto Rico’s better players in the overtime period.

James Marcelin- 4: Had the first real chance of the match for Puerto Rico and struck his shot pretty well, but was poor in possession and did little to help defensively in the middle of the pitch.

Sandy Gbandi- 6: Scored on a fantastic strike in the second minute of overtime, but was overmatched by Torrado in the middle of the park.

Joshua Hansen- 6: Did better in possession than most of his teammates and defended well on the wing, but made little impact on the match before being subbed in the 58th.

Nicholas Addlery- 5.5: Isolated and unable to do much, but was the only real relief his side had from constant pressure.

Subs:

Kendell Jagdeosingh- 5: No lack of running but failed to really get going at full stride. Found Marcelin to set up one good chance in regulation.

Domenic Mediate- 4: Brought on in the midfield, but made costly errors on both ends. Lost his mark and allowed Orozco to score and missed a sitter on the other end.

Petter Villagas- 6: Brought a bit of possession to the Islanders when he entered the match and set up Gbandi for his wonder strike.
