Let the party begin: Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez and Rafa Marquez celebrate winning the Gold Cup

The two players gave their insights on a thrilling 4-2 victory over the United States.

PASADENA, Calif. – Mexico national team stars Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez and Rafael Marquez are overjoyed with El Tri’s Gold Cup winning 4-2 victory over its rivals, the United States.

“We were consistent and we fought for the entire 90 minutes,” said Hernandez. “We were two down and that’s usually very difficult but thanks to God for this team, we found a way.”

Even though he didn’t score in the final, Hernandez’s dominant performances in the Gold Cup saw him won the Golden Boot with seven goals in six matches. He also assisted on Mexico’s first goal that saw Pablo Barrera score the first of a brace.

The 23-year-old was succinct in his description of his first Gold Cup.

“It was great. I was happy because we won it,” said the grinning Manchester United forward.

Marquez shared in his teammate's delight despite picking up a potentially serious hamstring injury. This is the 32-year-old veteran’s second win in the competition and he was happy to see Mexican soccer prevail.

“I think we did good work in this tournament and right now I am celebrating the victory,” said Marquez.

He added, “We know that this victory against the U.S. was very important. Whenever we play against the U.S., it is always a classic.”
