Sources have said an agreement has been reached this week between the 25-year-old and the Premier League club following a resolution in talks.

Canas will sign a long-term contract and join on a free transfer soon after the window opens at the end of next month.

The midfield anchorman, who came close to joining the Swans in the January window, is set to continue the Spanish invasion of Swansea that began when Angel Rangel and Roberto Martinez joined the club and moved up another level following the appointment of Michael Laudrup last summer.

Five of the eight players to join Swansea since Laudrup's arrival have arrived from Spain, with the likes of Michu, Chico Flores and Pablo Hernandez all providing outstanding value.

Canas, who graduated from the Betis youth ranks into the first team, has been a regular for the seventh-placed Liga club this season, starting 24 of their 31 league fixtures.
