Poll Results: Donovan to Play
The readers of Goal.com have spoken, and despite worries over the failure of past stints in Germany, they expect Landon Donovan to play a role for Jurgen Klingsmann’s Bayern Munich.

The USA star attacker is expected to go on loan with the
Bavarian giants.
That deal ends when the 2009 MLS season kicks into action in March. Donovan could be hoping the loan morphs into a permanent deal.
We asked Goal.com readers how frequently they think last season’s MLS top scorer will feature for Munich, and they responded favorably for Donovan’s chances.
The American would be competing with Luca Toni, Miroslav Klose, and Lukas Podolski. However, the youngest of the three, Podolski, has been angling for a deal away from Germany due to limited playing time. Manchester City has been thrown about as a possible January destination.
Donovan would be in line to prosper from that move, and could offer a turn of pace that neither the veteran Klose nor Toni could. 53% of Goal.com readers showed some restraint and predicted moderate time for Donovan as he looks to displace one of the two striking stalwarts. They didn’t believe, ultimately, that he will succeed, and suggested that Donovan will be back in his native California at the end of the loan period.
37% were more optimistic. They put their votes behind Donovan winning a starting position and becoming the national icon abroad that Americans have needed. They imagine the 26-year-old spending a substantial amount of time in Germany this time.
A minority 10% don’t imagine a different outcome from the last two times Donovan went to Germany, back then with Bayer Leverkusen. They see him spending time on the bench behind other options and quickly giving up for the starting role he would enjoy with the LA Galaxy.
