The Dutch coach has accused the 29-year-old of failing to deliver every week for Galatasaray, saying the playmaker's place on the plane to Brazil is in jeopardy.Louis van Gaal has issued Wesley Sneijder a stark World Cup warning, saying that the playmaker's perceived average of one through ball per game will not be enough to earn him a place in the Netherlands squad.
With just over a month to go before he names his roster for this summer's showpiece event in Brazil, the Dutch coach says the Galatasaray attacking midfielder might not be doing enough to justify his inclusion.
"What if that one through ball doesn't happen?" Van Gaal is quoted as saying by NRC. "Would we just say: too bad for the Dutch national team? In that case, our chances of being eliminated in the first round are quite big.
"You should be able to deliver at club level every week. If you can't deliver at your club, then you most definitely can't deliver at the national team. He will play in Turkey until the middle of May, so I will wait and see. There is no need to decide [who will be in the World Cup squad] before then."
Sneijder, who played a key role in Netherlands' run to the final of the 2010 World Cup, has been capped 97 times by his country.
