The 26-year-old French international admits that he did not expect to be called upon "so fast" in the national selection and has called on his teammates to put in all their effortLyon and French midfielder Yoann Gourcuff has expressed his delight with being called back to the national squad for their upcoming friendly on Wednesday when it travels to Italy.
Despite not being included in Les Bleus' last match, the 1-1 draw against reigning champions Spain, the ex-Bordeaux man is still grateful for the call-up.
"All selections are privileged," Gourcuff told the France Football website. "My career also depends on [how good] the team does. Everything is connected. Hopefully my teammates know that I play for them, and that should be enough."
Domestically, for Lyon, the midfield playmaker has seemingly returned to club form after knee troubles have disrupted his career since joining Les Gones in 2010.
His goal last week in Europa League action, against Athletic Bilbao, assisted Lyon in their 3-2 win, advancing them into the next stages of the tournament.
Gourcuff has made 29 appearances internationally and has scored four goals.
