Liga MX leading scorer Villa out injured

The Tigres man will be out for at least a month, bringing a screeching halt to his red-hot start to the Clausura

Striker Emmanuel "Tito" Villa leads the Liga MX scoring charts with eight goals in just eight games this Clausura season, but Tigres will have to do without him in coming weeks.

Villa suffered a calf strain in his left leg during last Thursday’s training session and the recuperation period is longer than originally expected.

“The estimated recovery time is between four and five weeks, without complications,” read a Tigres press release sent out Monday.

Villa signed for Monterrey club Tigres over the winter from Pumas and has quickly adapted. He has become the focal point of his new team’s offense and his goals have helped lift Tigres to first position in the Liga MX.

The news means the in-form striker misses the CONCACAF Champions League clash against the Seattle Sounders and is likely to sit out Tigres’ games against San Luis, Chivas, Puebla, Leon and Pumas.

America’s Christian Benitez leads the chasing pack in the Liga MX scoring chart with six goals, with seven players bunched on five goals.
