Dino Zoff has expressed his belief that the fate of the Euro 2012 final to be played on Sunday between Spain and Italy will rely on both teams' goalkeepers.
Zoff, himself a winner of the 1968 European Championship against Yugoslavia, added that a game of such importance usually turns into a war of attrition where the goalkeepers have a crucial part to play, especially when they are both captains of their respective teams.
"[Gianluigi] Buffon and [Iker] Casillas? That face-off will be crucial," Zoff told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"It is difficult to say how much. Everything will depend on what kind of game we get."
Though Italy enters the game as underdogs against the European and world champions, Zoff is confident Prandelli's men have what it takes to cause another upset.
"We may not be favorites on paper, but we won the last few big games while they surpassed France and Portugal playing so-so. Are they on the wane? Certainly not, but they have encountered more difficulties than us, clearly."
