thumbnail Hello,

The Three Lions' injured playmaker anticipates a fierce rivalry between the Ukrainian legend and Chelsea defender as they look to get one over on each other in Tuesday's clash.

England midfielder Frank Lampard believes Ukraine striker Andriy Shevchenko and Three Lions defender John Terry will be desperate to get one over on each other, when the two sides meet on Tuesday.

Roy Hodgson’s men go into the game knowing a draw will be enough to secure safe passage into the next round of the competition, while the Ukrainians know they need a win to keep their Euro 2012 dreams alive, and will be pinning their hopes on legendary forward Shevchenko.

Lampard believes the former Chelsea striker will be desperate to score, particularly against a side with John Terry in it.

“Sheva showed with those two goals we can’t afford to write him off as too old and too slow," He told The Sun on Sunday. “Great goalscorers like him always know when to make their move so they can be in the right place at the right time.

“I just know he’d love to score against England and he’ll be desperate to score against John Terry. They are mates but Sheva will ignore that and go all guns blazing to get the better of JT. Just as I’m sure JT will be desperate to keep him out at all costs. They’ll both be keen to get one over on each other and they’ll both relish the challenge. That’s what makes them the top players they are.”

Lampard, who missed out on the tournament through injury, is full of praise for his former teammate, despite his Chelsea career not having worked out in the way he would have wanted or expected.

“Sheva is up there as one of the world’s greatest striker for a generation. He’s a legend, a true superstar," Lampard said. “Sheva is the complete goal machine. He lives to score goals. He mainly plays right up there on the shoulder of the defender and is always looking to break into the box.

“His movement and awareness in the area are top drawer and he’s already shown at the Euros what a deadly finisher he still is.”
