Ozil: Germany is like Real Madrid, everyone wants to beat us

The 23-year-old midfielder likened club and country in terms of performance, and insisted that he has not reached his full potential at the highest level.

Germany midfielder Mesut Ozil has likened the national team to his club side, Real Madrid, voicing his belief that die Mannschaft are the team that everybody wants to beat.

"It's true, that I can still play better," the Real Madrid midfielder was quoted as saying by Zeit Online.

"Because I know what is inside me. I still have not shown everything. Although I hit the post against Netherlands, I've had bad luck, but yes I will improve myself."

"Germany is like Real Madrid. I like that."

Joachim Low's men are the only side in the tournament to have taken six points so far, a fact that has not been missed by Ozil, who has insisted that he can play at an even higher level.

"I am also proud of the team. Others, such as England, Italy, Spain and Netherlands do not have six points from two games. We have defeated two top nations," Ozil said.

He added, "Nevertheless, we need a point to be safe in the quarterfinals. So I will not now stand up and cheer. Against Denmark, we have to get everything and be very careful."

"If we fulfill our potential, I [will not] be worried at all. Then, we can defeat the Danes."

"The level we've reached was our aim, our goal. Each opponent wants to defeat us now. It's like Real Madrid. Since each smaller team also wants to beat us, and gets everything out of themselves [to achieve it].

Ozil and his teammates will lock horns with Morten Olsen's men in their final Group B game.
