The former AC Milan striker has stressed that the Euro 2008 finalists face stiff competition, and admitted that domestic expectations ahead of the tournament are sky-high
"Spain belong to the big favorites. Everybody talks about Spain and Germany, and how we will meet in the final," Bierhoff stated at a press conference.
"I can only advise to remain calm, though. Netherlands are very strong, and France have not lost in the past 20 matches."
Germany was beaten 1-0 by Spain in the Euro 2008 final, while it was eliminated by the Roja in the semifinals at the 2010 World Cup, and expectations are very high ahead of this summer's tournament.
"The expectations are incredible in Germany. However, the higher expectations get, the bigger the risk to be disappointed," Bierhoff stressed. "We had a very young team in 2010 and we were without our skipper. We have shown what we are capable of in the games against Holland and Brazil, and during our qualification campaign."
He added, "However, we've also shown during our preparations that we're not there yet. We are working on our flaws. I know that this team has a lot of potential."
Germany starts its Euro 2012 campaign with a Group B match against Portugal on June 9.
