Van Persie unsure of Netherlands starting place at Euro 2012

Despite taking to the pitch against Slovakia, the Oranje forward states he still does not know whether he will be on the field in their tournament opener versus Denmark on June 9

Robin van Persie has admitted that he is still unsure of what role he will play for Netherlands at Euro 2012 as the debate over the Arsenal striker and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar continues to ramble on.

The Gunners hitman comes into the championships in Poland and Ukraine on the back of a prolific 2011-12 campaign, but the Schalke attacker has been equally as impressive in front of goal this season, giving coach Bert van Marwijk a selection headache.

Van Persie was given the nod to start up top against Slovakia in a warm-up friendly last week, which ended 2-0 in the Netherlands' favor, but he still harbors doubts over being given a starting place by the Oranje boss during the tournament.

"I do not know if I am the No.1 striker," he told OnsOranje. "I really do not know. Nobody knows that yet. Van Marwijk will go for a striker who works well with the midfield, but that can also be Klaas.

"In recent years, he has developed very well, but I can develop too. There is always room for improvement."

Netherlands raise the curtains on their Euro 2012 campaign against Denmark in Group B on June 9.
