Sagnol: I hope Ribery will show his qualities at Euro 2012

The former Franc fullback expects the Bayern ace to emulate his club form and perform at the highest level during the European Championship this summer in Poland and Ukraine

Willy Sagnol has stated his belief that the form of Franck Ribery will be crucial to les Bleus' chances of glory at this summer's European Championship.

Ribery has been outstanding at club level for Bayern Munich this season, netting 16 goals and providing 26 assists in all competitions, and played a key role in the Bavarians' run to the Champions League final.

Speaking about Ribery's inability to emulate much of his club form when playing for his country, Sagnol pointed out that mental block could be the issue, but he nevertheless has confidence in his compatriot's qualities.

"You should ask him why he is so convincing with Bayern and not for France," Sagnol told RMC. "It's more in the head. I hope he will show his qualities at the European Championship."

Before that, however, Ribery will have the showdown against Chelsea in Europe's blue-ribbon club competition and Sagnol, who previously played alongside the winger for both Bayern and France, believes that the 28-year-old must show his true worth in the Allianz Arena decider.

"The game against Chelsea is one of the most important of his career,” Sagnol said. "He has to show that he is there in the big games."

France has been drawn in Group D with Ukraine, Sweden and England. Its first match is against the Three Lions on June 11 in Donetsk.
