VIDEO: Miss Of The Season Contender: Rui Miguel (CSKA Sofia) Versus Cliftonville

The horror misses keep coming.

By 101 Great Goals

It's becoming almost a permanent fixture of the 2010-11 season that every week a professional footballer somewhere screws-up with an unbelievable miss.

Colorado Rapids forward Conor Casey got the contest rolling with his effort against the Kansas City Wizards, which was followed up by the high profile fluff from Santos' star forward Robinho. Last week Stromsgodset forward Ola Kamara managed to miss a header from under the bar, but now we have a fourth loser to add to the growing list.

On Tuesday night CSKA Sofia took on Cliftonville in the Europa League qualifiers, and the Northern Irish side were duly walloped 3-0 in the first leg. Three, however, should have been four.

In the 19th minute CSKA had a great opportunity to score when they were awarded a free-kick on the left hand side of the Cliftonville box. A dangerous inswinging ball was played into the mixer that the visitors completely failed to defend, and it seemed an inevitability that CSKA would score as the ball reached striker Rui Miguel virtually on the goalline.

Had he tried to fluff the opportunity on purpose, few would have backed the Portuguese striker to miss the open goal from a yard out. As it turned out though, against all odds Rui Miguel managed to put the ball over the bar before he was forced to hang his head in shame.
