The Argentine giants are the latest international club to look to the United States to expand their reach as they open up a school in Long island, N.Y.
Boca Juniors goes beyond borders. The Boca Juniors Academy in the U.S. is an example of the club's reach around the globe. It will be the first soccer school in the U.S. with the quality standards that make Boca Juniors a well-known brand as a youth school.
The school will allow dozens of kids to wear the famous blue and yellow colors with the same passion as those players in Buenos Aires, including Carlos Tevez, Fernando Gago, and Sebastián Battaglia among so many others.
The player tryouts, for both men and women, will kick off on March 21 and end on the 29th, followed by the official start of the development program that will include a training session and a weekly game for the younger kids and two sessions and one game for the older kids.
Boys and girls will be classified according to their age: Pre-Academy (4-7 years), Youth Academy (9-13) and Pro Academy (14-18).
Boca Juniors is one of the biggest professional soccer player producers around the world with more than 200 active players in different leagues. That experience and background will be used in this new venture in New York, a project that is carried by the International Football department and is led by Fabián Parra. For the first tasks, coach Gastón Pernía will travel from Buenos Aires along with trainer Oscar Aquino.
Beyond the school in New York, Boca Juniors has 42 other institutions in 10 countries: Japan, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, Peru, India, Kuwait, Indonesia, Chile and El Salvador.
"Soccer is the second most popular sport in the U.S. for people between 12 and 24 years old," according to Mariano Berenstein, who leads this project.
"TV ratings have increased considerably in the last few years and we can add how Latinos have helped the growth. That's why this is a great chance for Boca Juniors to become the reference for Spanish speakers."
