Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer in Flamengo brawl

The American musician was forced to apologize after angering Flamengo fans at a workshop earlier this week
Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith has offered his apologies to Flamengo fans after wiping his behind with a Mengao jersey at an event in Belo Horizonte.

The musician attended a workshop in the Brazilian city earlier this week and was presented a Flamengo shirt on stage. Smith was initially jeered by the audience when he received the jersey, but was given applause when he pretended to wipe his backside with the shirt.

However, he has now stressed that he regrets his action after he was criticized for the incident by Flamengo supporters.

"I want to apologize for my inappropriate antics at the drum clinic," Smith said on his official Facebook page.

"My joke about team rivalries went too far. Clube de Regatas do Flamengo fans...I'm sorry."
