Marcelo: Brazil back in its rightful place

The Real Madrid left back believes that his side's Confederations Cup victory shows that the Selecao are back among the elite teams in the world.
Real Madrid defender Marcelo feels his Brazil side is back among football's best teams following its 3-0 success against Spain in the Confederation Cup final on Sunday.

Two goals from Fred and another Neymar strike were enough for the Selecao to beat the reigning world and European champions and win the Confederations Cup for a third straight time, and Marcelo believes the victory shows that his side -- ranked 22nd in the world in the most recent FIFA rankings -- can be considered elite once again.

"We have a lot of respect for the Spanish squad and we succeeded in defeating them," Marcelo told Real Madrid's official website. "They have an incredible team, and to beat them 3-0 like this is to make history.

"What's more, it was a great thrill to play here with the support of these wonderful fans."

"We have demonstrated that Brazil are returning to their rightful place, which is at the very top. Other teams will look at us a lot differently now.

"We are not a conceited group of players, though, and we will try to improve our performance in home games."
