The former Barcelona player and his agent will soon begin talks over on a new contract, which will see him remain in Belo Horizonte for at least another two years
The 32-year-old has recently been linked with a move to Fluminense and Santos after his impressive performances in recent months, but his club have acted quickly to extend his contract.
Ronaldinho's brother and agent, Roberto Assis refrained from making an official announcement, but conceded that the deal is imminent.
"I can not confirm the renewal, but there he has the conditions to stay and this is the feeling in the air. The relationship is very good and we have all the prerequisites to renew," Assis was quoted saying by Lancenet. "I do not know if it will be two years, three, four, or a lifetime. Let us discuss calmly, with tranquillity, he is happy at the club. We have a meeting set for next week."
"The year is not over for him. He is focusing on these two matches for Atletico which will shape the season," Assis added.
Ronaldinho is said to still be hopeful of making his way back into the Brazil national squad and it is has been speculated that the guarantees of playing time at Atletico Mineiro is the reason why he does not want to leave the club.
