“I can confirm contact with MLS clubs as well as European clubs,” Bernardo said. “At this point, it’s 50-50, but MLS excites me.”
The U-20 International has wanted first team football, and he believes that MLS would be a good place to get that.
“It is about me taking everything I learned at Napoli and applying that in a league where I can see regular first team minutes.”
While Bernardo admits MLS is an exciting opportunity, he still is seriously considering the European interest he has been garnering.
“I am getting interest from Europe so that [is the reason] why it is taking more time than usual to make a decision.”
Playing time will be crucial to Bernardo's future. U20 coach Thomas Rongen has not called Bernardo in to the US team's training camps since January.
