Cafu is impressed with the threat the Germans pose this summer but has picked the Bayern Munich star as the standout individual.
"Germany have a strong team who have performed well recently. Along with Brazil they're among the favorites," he told Kicker. "What impresses me most is Bastian Schweinsteiger. He is a complete player who has been an enormous help to his team, Bayern."
Cafu also praised the quality of Philipp Lahm, who could yet feature in midfield at the World Cup, despite spending the vast majority of his career at fullback.
"He is really fantastic. He is just as good on the right as on the left. He's a player that every coach would like to have on their team."
