Marotta: Pirlo exit out of the question

The 34-year-old playmaker has been linked with a reunion with Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid in recent weeks but is now said to be on the verge of extending his stay in Turin.

Andrea Pirlo’s Juventus contract is due to expire in the summer but general manager Giuseppe Marotta has reassured fans that the midfielder is close to signing a new deal with the club.

The veteran playmaker's three goals in 14 league appearances have boosted the Bianconeri's bid for a third successive Serie A title and, thanks to Sunday's 3-0 win over second-placed Roma, the reigning champion is now eight points clear at the top of the table.

Marotta is happy with the way his team has performed this season and has stated that the club is not looking to offload anybody during the January transfer window.

"The team is a strong and functional group and we do not want to sell anybody," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "We have a plan that goes on for three years and, at this moment in time, there is no possibility of selling Pirlo, even though his contract is coming to the end.

“Relations are excellent between Pirlo and the club and we are currently seeking to prolong his contract.”
